Firemen from several fire departments assisted Cozad firemen in containing a cornstalk fire Monday(1-19-09) afternoon near Cozad. The fire was reported shortly before 2:00pm in a field of cornstalks about 2 miles northwest of Cozad. The high winds caused the fire to quickly move southeastward crossing a gravel road into another field of cornstalks. Mutual aid from Gothenburg, Eustis and Lexington helped to bring the fire under control in a little more than two hours.
