Cardinals flying high to start the year

By Jayson Jorgensen

Alma-Through three games the Alma Cardinal football team is off to a great start. Last week the Cardinals scored 52 straight points to beat arch-rival Franklin 60-24. They started the season with two big wins over Red Cloud and Medicine Valley. "The team has played pretty smart football through the first two games I hope it continues." says coach Isaac Frecks. He also feels that upfront the Cardinals have been solid with Charlie Robison, Trent Christensen, J.C. Nelson, Blaine Janssen and Chad Whetstine leading the way. At quarterback Max Boehler is 13-22 passing for 183 yards and has thrown just one interception. Alma has also had success running the ball as Garrett Kohling is averaging around 150 yards per game. This week Alma hosts Bertrand who is 0-3. Frecks adds he thought this type of success was possible if the team played to its abilities. He also felt they had a chance to surprise some people if they didn't turn the football over. Alma is the D1-8 district this season which also features Arapahoe, Amherst and Overton who also have been able to get off to good starts this month.
