The Lexington Minutemaids and Minutemen begin the 2009-2010 basketball season tonight at home against Ogallala. Coach Randy Carpenter returns a number of key players from last year's squad that went 13-9. Returning is leading scorer Hailey Mandelko. Last year as a sophomore she broke several school records on her way to averaging 18 ppg as she collected Class B all state honors. Also returning are Sydney Seberger, Bridget Seberger, Katherine Longly, Megan Sculley, Renee Otero and Maisie O'Meara who all averaged between 2 points and 4 points per game last season. Tip off of the girls game is set for 5:30pm.
On the boys side, coach Eric Young begins his second season at the helm of the Minutemen program. Lexington is coming off a 7-13 season. Last year Lexington gave up just 48 ppg, but scored only 49 ppg and was on the short end of a number of close games. Lexington returns three seniors who saw varsity action last year in RJ Seberger, Hawken Albus and Andrew Rios. During the football season two projected starters Tyler Tingelhoff and Patrick Berke were lost due to injuries. Tonight tip off is set for around 7:15pm. Both of tonight's games can be heard on 93.1 KRVN FM and on krvn.com
