Lopers take two from Regis
Kearney, Neb. – Junior Max Froehlich tied his career high in points (30) to lead Nebraska-Kearney past Regis, 66-59, Saturday afternoon at the Health & Sports Center.The Lopers improves to 10-11, (5-8 RMAC) ending a four game losing streak, while the Rangers fall to 7-14, (2-11 RMAC). Nebraska-Kearney leads the all-time series 27-6 and has won 21 of the last 22 meetings against Regis. UNK led much of the half thanks to cold shooting by the Rangers who shot 21% (6-28) from the floor mean while the Lopers made 46% (13-28) to lead 35-23 at the half. Froehlich scored 21 of his team high 30 in the first twenty minutes. With 11:54 in the second half UNK was up 40-39 and then went on 18-9 scoring run to put the Ranger away. Loper senior Josiah Parker scored 8 of 12 points in the second twenty minutes; Regis Matt Rosinski scored 11 of his team leading 21 points in the last 6:48 of the game. Lopers outscored the Ranger bench 20-2 and out rebounded 41-35 including 33-24 edge on the defensive end. Nebraska-Kearney was led by Froehlich (Jr., G, Pierce) scored 30 points (ties career high) on 9 of 15 FG shooting, 5 rebounds, 3 steals. Brian Ridgeway (Jr., G, Casper, WY) pulled down 5 rebounds, kept the RMAC’s second leading scorer Rosinski below his average for most of the game. Parker (Sr., C, Lincoln) scored 12 points on 4 of 7 FG shooting, 9 rebounds. Regis was led by Bill Brandenburg scored 9 points on 4 of 8 FG shooting, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals. Matt Rosinski scored 21 points on 4 of 8 3-pt FG shooting, 5 rebounds. Chris Johansen scored 10 points on 5 of 9 FG shooting, 5 rebounds, 1 blocked shot. Nebraska Kearney hosts Chadron State on Tuesday night.

Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team made 11 three pointers, tying a season-high, and had a good overall day on the offensive end to breeze past Regis, 83-61, Saturday afternoon at the Health & Sports Center. UNK (7-13, 6-7 RMAC) wins its fourth in a row and is now tied with Chadron State, a 75-74 loser to Metro State today, for 4th place in the East Division. Mean while, Regis (9-12, 2-11 RMAC) has dropped four straight and eight of nine. In leading nearly the entire way, UNK finished the first half on a 13-4 run to open up a double digit lead, 43-29. The Rangers didn't get the deficit under 11 points the rest of the way with the Lopers lead ballooning to as much as 27 points. UNK shot 50 percent (30 of 60) for the game, the third time this year the team has made at least half its field goals. From beyond the arc, the Lopers were 11 of 27 (40.7 percent), just off the season best effort set against Mesa State (11 of 25) earlier this year Kearney also had a season-high 23 assists, out rebounded Regis by seven (39-32) and forced 20 turnovers. Wing Vanessa Leeper (Colorado Springs, Colo.) made seven of 10 shots to tally 19 points, one off her career-high, with fellow sophomore Debi Johnson (Elsie) scoring 15 points by making five of 12 three point shots. The Perkins County grad is only the sixth UNK women's player to reach triple digits in career made threes. At an even 100, Johnson joins current Omaha Marian head coach Beth Swift (247/1998-02), Taryn Ninemire (223/2001-04), Amy Mathis (164/2004-08), Liz Fischer (160/2003-07) and Kara Graham (117/1995-99) as Lopers in the 100 or more 3-point club. Also for the Lopers, freshman reserve guard Miki Wulf (Blair) scored a season-high 13 points by making four of five threes with senior post Kim Thissen (Davenport, Ia.) providing a team-high 10 rebounds, seven points and four assists. For Regis, freshman starter Tae'lor Purdy had a team-high 16 points, six rebounds and three steals. UNK hosts Chadron Tuesday night to end a five-game homestand
