High school football recaps

Alliance downed Lexington 30 to 13 in Alliance Friday night.

By John Soflin

The Bulldogs used a powerful running game racking up 427 yards on the ground. Senior tailback Cody Anthony was a workhorse as he carried the ball 53 times and accumulated 312 yards rushing with three touchdowns. Lexington scored first after stopping Alliance who went for a first down on fourth and one at their own 10 yard line on their first possession. Lexington took over on an Alex Berglund fumble and scored from 2 yards out on a Tyler Tingelhoff run around the right end. Alliance answered with an 80 yard drive with Anthony scoring his first TD from the Lexington nine. The Minutemen answered right back with Tingelhoff connecting with Hawken Albus on a 67 yard pass play for Albus’s fifth TD reception on the year. The Minutemen had put up 13 points on just three plays. It would be the last time Lexington scored however as Alliance dominated both sides of the ball for the rest of the contest. “It was a very physical contest,” said Lexington head coach Phil Truax. “We got some kids banged up, but I can’t fault the effort the kids gave on the field. Alliance is a good football team. They didn’t do anything we weren’t prepared for. They just did it very very well.” Lexington will return home next week to play York, while Alliance crosses over into Wyoming to take on Douglass.
