Hastings College names new volleyball coach

Hastings- Ronald Alexander from Eaton, Colorado has been named head volleyball coach at Hastings College. A press conference was held Tuesday morning, Nov. 18, in the Legacy Room, Osborne Family Sports Complex. Alexander was in attendance, as was Dr. Phil Dudley, Hastings College president, and Fran Hummel, athletic director. Alexander, who will also have rank of instructor, has coached volleyball in various capacities for the past 20 years. He was head volleyball coach from 2002 to 2005 at the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley (UNC), achieving an 88-14 overall record. Alexander coached a NCAA Division II Player of the Year, coached three All-Americans, three Academic All-Americans and four Academic All-Conference athletes. In 2002, Alexander led the UNC team to a #2 national ranking, the highest ranking in the school’s history, and finished with a 31-3 season. He was named Conference and Regional Coach of the Year and his team also won the North Central Conference and Region championships. During the 2003 season, the volleyball team had a 26-match winning streak and won the NCAA Division I Independent Championship. Also in 2003, UNC began the transition from NCAA Division II to Division I. From 1988 to 2000, Alexander was head volleyball coach at Fort Morgan High School, Fort Morgan, Colo., achieving a 234-69 overall record. During his last two seasons, the team had only one loss. In 1998 and 1999, his teams won back-to-back state championships. For the past two years, Alexander coached the NORCO Juniors Volleyball Club based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Both teams qualified for the USAV Girls National Championships. Alexander completed a bachelor of arts degree in K-12 physical education at UNC, and also holds a master of science degree in sport administration from the same institution.
