Neb. capitol's resident falcon chicks named
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ River names have been given to four peregrine falcon chicks that hatched outside the 18th floor of the Nebraska Capitol. The two females are now called Nemaha and Niobrara; the males are Platte and Calamus. Capitol tourism supervisor Roxanne Smith came up with the idea of naming the birds after four Nebraska rivers. In winning the contest run by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, she was given a stuffed-toy peregrine falcon and year's subscription to Nebraskaland Magazine. The chicks hatched in their nest box in May. Scott Bonertz with the parks commission says the male parent has not been renamed, so he's known only by his original designation of 19/K. His mate is called Ally. ___ On the Net: FalconCam: http://www.ngpc.state.ne.us/wildlife/webcam/peregrine/default.asp
