Neb. home sales up more than 20 pct from 1st quarter to 2nd
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Nebraska reported a quarterly sales gain of more than 20 percent as U.S. home sales grew in the second quarter. A new survey says the sales rose in 39 states, another sign that the ailing housing market is finally coming to life. The National Association of Realtors said today that total quarterly sales rose 3.8 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.76 million, from 4.58 million in the first quarter. The sales were still about 3 percent below a year ago. Besides Nebraska, states reporting quarterly gains of 20 percent or more were Idaho, Hawaii, New York and Wisconsin. Prices are still down from a year ago in 129 out of 155 metropolitan areas the group tracks. The median sales price was $174,100, almost 16 percent below a year ago.
