Texas, not Nebraska, lands new Air Force unit
Lackland Air Force Base
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) _ The Air Force says the headquarters of its new cyberspace unit will be located at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. The decision announced Friday is another blow to local hopes for Offutt Air Force Base south of Omaha. Offutt had been among the six finalists for the new unit, the 24th Air Force. Offutt had also been a finalist for the Air Forces's new Global Strike Command, which went instead to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. And Nebraska's delegation had pushed Offutt as the best site for a new multibranch cyberwarfare unit that will be based near Washington, at Fort Meade, Md.
