Oct. 19 court date set in Neb. animal neglect case
NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (AP) _ A Nebraska City man authorities say was responsible for dozens of cattle that turned up missing or dead is due to appear in court later this month. Thirty-three-year-old Christopher Schram will appear Oct. 19 in Otoe County Court. He faces five counts of animal neglect. Authorities say Schram was responsible for about 170 head of cattle this spring that others kept on his farm. Otoe County Attorney David Partsch said a herd owner reported up to 70 head missing. He also said Schram told investigators that up to 30 head had died. Partsch said investigators found a pile of carcasses containing a number of cattle in differing stages of decomposition. Partsch also said other cattle in the feed yard appeared to a veterinarian to be malnourished.
