Kerrey stepping down from NYC's New School in 2011
NEW YORK (AP) _ Bob Kerrey is stepping down as president of New York City's New School when his contract is up in 2011. The former presidential candidate says it has nothing to do with faculty and student protests against him. Kerrey announced his departure Wednesday at a meeting of the school's board of trustees. The former Nebraska senator and governor has been president of the university since 2001 and has clashed with faculty and students. Student protesters staged two sit-ins in December and April. The April protest resulted in more than 20 arrests. Kerrey says he had always planned to leave in 2011. The 65-year-old Kerrey sought the Democratic nomination for president in 1992.
