Homestead monument selected for US coin series
Homestead National Monument
BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) _ A depiction of Homestead National Monument near Beatrice will grace a commemorative quarter that will be issued in 2015. Mark Engler is superintendent of Homestead. He says the quarter will help share the history and importance of the Homestead Act with the world. Homestead was one of four sites Gov. Dave Heineman selected and then forwarded to the U.S. Treasury for its final selection. Heineman also nominated Scotts Bluff National Monument, DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge, and Niobrara National Scenic River. The final design will come from U.S. Mint designers who will confer with park officials. The Nebraska coins will be the 26th of 56 coins slated to be released in the America the Beautiful National Park Quarter Series. ___
