Child Dies From Loomis Fire
A two-year-old boy has died following a house fire Monday afternoon near Loomis. Assistant Fire Chief Russ Harvey says fire departments and law enforcement from the surrounding area responded with assistance to the call of a laundry room fire. Soon after arriving on the scene they learned that a boy was sleeping in an upstairs room. Harvey says the boy, Atreyu Boyer, was retrieved from the house. Boyer died on Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney according to a news release from the Phelps County Attorney's Office. Boyer resided at the residence with his parents Kenneth and Melody Boyer. The Nebraska Fire Marshall's Office has said the fire was accidental and is believed to have occurred from an electrical malfunction in the laundry room. The incident remains under investigation.
