Improvements set for W. Nebraska lake
OGALLALA, Neb. (AP) _ Visitors to Lake Ogallala in western Nebraska will see some big changes taking place later this month, including work that will improve trout and other fish habitat. The renovation will continue through late November and resume in February and March. Water levels will be significantly lower while the project is under way, and recreational opportunities may be temporarily affected. Heavy equipment will be used to create a channel approximately 6,000 feet long intended to improve circulation and enhance habitat in the Keystone portion of the lake. At the same time, the fishery will be renovated to remove the undesirable fish species such as carp, white suckers and alewife. The lake will be lowered this fall to facilitate both of these projects. ___ On the Net: Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality: http://www.deq.state.ne.us
