Fifteen homes are being built in Dawson County under a housing project known as Dawson Estates. Five of the homes are in Gothenburg, five are in Cozad and another five in Lexington. The homes in Lexington are nearly completed so community leaders and project members held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday in Lexington. Dana Point Development of Turlock, CA. is the developer for the houses. Company representative Matt Thomas says they are being developed through a housing program known as CROWN, which he describes as an acronym for using tax credits towards home ownership. He says a portion of the rent collected from tenants is set-aside for them to saves towards future home ownership. Those funds can be used towards buying the home itself or another home located within Dawson County.
The homes were built by G.E. Peters, inc of Aurora. Gary Peters, with the firm, says the houses average 1,300 square feet and are built slab-on-grade. They have two bedrooms, two baths and two car garage. Linda Hudson will be one of the new tenants in the Lexington homes. She moved from Chicago to Lexington nearly a year ago. She describes the homes as "beautiful" and "gorgeous" and is looking forward to a home with central air conditioning.
