1 driver dies, 1 hurt in south-central Neb. crash

GIBBON, Neb. (AP) _ Authorities are trying to find out what caused a fatal collision on U.S. Highway 30 near Gibbon in south-central Nebraska. The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office says two cars collided around 6:40 p.m. Sunday. Both drivers were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. One of them, 52-year-old Jerry Codner of Wood River, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. An autopsy has been ordered. No information was released on the condition of the other driver, 34-year-old Jose Murillo Avina of Shelton. A hospital spokeswoman did not immediately return a phone call Monday from The Associated Press. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.
