OMAHA, Neb. (AP) _ Agriculture officials say $35 million in grants and loans will go to renewable energy and efficiency projects and $2.3 million of that is coming to Nebraska. Wind turbines, geothermal systems, biomass corn stoves, and the conversion of diesel irrigators to electric are among the 170 Nebraska projects receiving funds. Nationwide 639 individuals and businesses in 43 states and the Virgin Islands were selected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to receive grants and loan guarantees for renewable energy systems. Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer made the announcement Wednesday saying such projects are good for the economy, good for jobs and help the country become more energy independent.
