Lex. man denied request to withdraw guilty plea
Jaime Ramos
A Lexington man was NOT allowed to withdraw his guilty plea to drug charges following a hearing Friday in Dawson county district court. 25 year old Jaime Ramos was sentenced in April to the maximum of 20 to 60 months in prison on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. That sentence was in addition to a six-month county court sentence he received in April for pleading to driving with a suspended license. Defense Attorney P. Stephen Potter said Ramos entered into the plea with the understanding that he would be considered as a candidate for SSAS (pronounced SASS), which stands for Specialized Substance Abuse Supervision program. Placement would have made Ramos eligible for probation. District Judge Jim Doyle denied Ramos' motion to withdraw his plea saying that Ramos was not able to prove that there was a "manifested injustice" during plea negotiations and sentencing.
