Sargent residents explore options for nursing home
Sargent's Golden LivingCenter nursing home is slated for closing November 30th and will consolidate with a home in nearby Broken Bow. But the town is exploring its options for the facility which houses 42 residents. Glenn Grint is President of the Sargent Chamber of Commerce. Grint says community members have met with Tony Johnson, director of operations for the district that includes Nebraska for Golden Living, which owns both nursing homes. Grint says one option which has been discussed is to use the building as an assisted living center. Grint says the owner of an assisted living center can link-up to other health providers, but is not allowed to hire a medical staff to take care of the tenants. He says the Golden LivingCenter, which has 63 employees, would lose medical personnel, but it would be able to hire employees for the assisted living center. Grint says another meeting to discuss the future of the nursing home is set for Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the high school gym.
