Neb. Labor Department will close 4 career centers
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ The Nebraska Department of Labor plans to close four career centers and eliminate roughly 12 jobs early next month to save nearly $580,000. Labor Commissioner Catherine Lang says federal money pays for about 98 percent of Nebraska Workforce Development's budget. She says the cuts announced Thursday will reduce costs enough, so federal money will cover all of Workforce Development's expenses. The career centers in Kearney, Holdrege, Chadron and Falls City will close Nov. 6, but there will still be 17 centers open across the state. And the Labor Department offers several services online. There are 16 jobs affected by the changes but four of those employees will be offered the chance to transfer to a career center in another city.
