The former executive director of the Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce was arrested Thursday by the Dawson County Sheriff's Department on two counts of theft by unlawful taking involving $8,500 allegedly taking from Community Service Center Incorporated in August of 2005. The arrest of Vicki Gilpin of Overton follows a two-year investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol into alleged financial improprieties involving the Community Service Center and the Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce. Gilpin was interim executive director for the Community Service Center for several months starting in July 2005 while also serving as executive director of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. Gilpin resigned her position with the Lexington Chamber of Commerce in February of 2007. The State Patrol investigation also involved a review of copies of cancelled checks from 2005 and 2007 drawn on the Chamber's checking account issued to Gilpin by Gilpin. Chamber officials interviewed during the course of the investigation said it appeared to them that there were numerous unauthorized checks drawn on the Chamber's checking account made out to Gilpin and signed by Gilpin. She was released from custody after posting a $2,000 cash bond. Gilpin is scheduled to be arraigned in Dawson county court on August 12th at 9 a.m.
