Prosecutor: Neb. man had raised gun at officers
Cherry county, location of Valentine
VALENTINE, Neb. (AP) _ Authorities say a Valentine rancher was shot and killed after the man pointed a gun at police officers. Cherry County Attorney Eric Scott says 56-year-old Gary Connot was found hiding in a closet in the Valentine home of his estranged wife, Linda. In January, he put a pistol to his wife's face and threatened to kill her. He was out on bond, pending sentencing in October. Scott says Linda Connot called police around 4 Tuesday morning after hearing a noise in a bedroom closet. Officers found Gary Connot in the closet and ordered him out. Scott says Connot pulled a gun and raised it at the officers, so one of them fired once, killing Connot. Because Connot died while being taken into custody, a grand jury will investigate. ___
