Senator John McCain
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ With John McCain the presumptive Republican nominee and Barack Obama already the majority winner among Nebraska Democrats who caucused in February, Nebraska's presidential primary holds no drama. But things could get interesting in November. Nebraska is among the reddest of states when it comes to electing presidents. Lyndon Johnson was the last Democrat to carry Nebraska, and that was 44 years ago. Democratic Party chairman Steve Achelpohl says no one should dismiss the possibility of a competitive race against McCain in Nebraska if Obama were the Democratic nominee. Obama won 16 of 24 delegates in the caucuses. Achelpohl says Democrats could get two or more of Nebraska's five electoral votes, which can be split. ___ Nebraska Republican Party: http://www.negop.org/ Nebraska Democratic Party: http://www.nebraskademocrats.org/
