Bills would let Nebraskans register Election Day
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Two proposals to let Nebraskans register to vote on Election Day will be considered by state lawmakers. The Legislature's Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee is holding a hearing on the bills Wednesday. Sen. Kent Rogert of Tekamah introduced a bill (LB382) that would let Nebraskans register at the last minute, but only at the election commissioner's office or the county clerk's. Another bill (LB125), introduced earlier by Sen. Bill Avery of Lincoln, would also allow same-day registration at polling places, too. Under both bills, would-be voters who've never registered in the state would have to bring photo IDs or utility bills or bank statements with the names and addresses of the voters. ___ On the Net: Nebraska Legislature: www.nebraskalegislature.gov
