Work to begin soon on another Neb. military center
MCCOOK, Neb. (AP) _ Work is set to begin on another new Nebraska military facility, this one in McCook. A groundbreaking ceremony for the $7.9 million Armed Forces Reserve Center is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the site, south of the McCook airport near U.S. Highway 6. The Guard says work is expected to be done in spring 2011. The project is a collaboration of the Nebraska Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve. The 33,000-square-foot facility will replace the Guard's current McCook center, which was completed in 1962. It will become home to the Guard's 45-member Detachment 2, 1195th Transportation Company and the Reserve's 48-member Detachment 1, 1013th Quartermaster Company. A groundbreaking was held Monday in Columbus for a similar project.
