Ord looking to hire new police chief
ORD, Neb. (AP) _ Ord leaders are facing a March 6 deadline for naming a new police chief. That's when Bryan Kirby steps down from the post, which he's held since 1997. Kirby resigned in a letter to the City Council and says he wants to try something other than police work. Ord Mayor Randy O'Brien said Thursday that he didn't know of any council displeasure with the chief's work or any other problems. O'Brien says he and the council are grateful for Kirby's service to Ord, a city of around 2,000 in central Nebraska's Valley County. The 47-year-old Kirby joined the force in 1993. The mayor says a search has already begun to find Kirby's replacement. The resignation cuts the Ord department down to just three officers.
