Gothenburg elevator explosion

Gothenburg firemen will renew their efforts again this morning(FRI) at the scene of an elevator explosion just southwest of the downtown area, along Highway 30. The explosion occurred around 3:15am Thursday. One man, an employee of All Points Cooperative, was injured in the blast. Although his name has not been officially released, he was listed in critical condition late yesterday(Thur) afternoon at Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, which is known for it's burn care. All Points President Ed Foster said the employee was operating grain dryers at the time of the blast. He exited the elevator through a south door. The area remains blocked-off and Dawson County Emergency Manager Brian Woldt explains that thee will be more examination of the elevator structure and removal of a large tangle of metal that is hanging over the side of the elevator at the top. Once it is deemed safe to enter, the firemen will extinguish a fire that is believed to still be burning inside one of the concrete bins. The cause of the blast is being investigated by the state Fire Marshall's Office.

The Gothenburg firemen returned their trucks to the firehall late Thursday afternoon as the sun began to set. After prepping the trucks they were sent home for rest overnight.
