Maker of Wheatware products files for bankruptcy
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) _ A Grand Island manufacturer of biodegradable clothes hangers, golf tees, guitar picks and other items has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The Wheatware products of Midwest Manufacturing Co. Inc. had been featured as one of the ``Modern Marvels'' on the History Channel in August 2008. Documents say Midwest Manufacturing filed its bankruptcy petition on Jan. 25 in Lincoln. It declared nearly $1.32 million in assets and nearly $4.08 million in liabilities. Warren Kirsch is chief executive officer/secretary of Midwest Manufacturing. Kirsch said Monday that he owns the company and that the filing was necessary to reorganize its debt. He said another entity, Wheatware USA, has taken over production, which remains at the same Grand Island plant.© 2010 The Nebraska Rural Radio Association. All rights reserved.
