Tokyo Stops JBS-Swift Plant Imports
Tokyo has halted imports of beef from a JBS-Swift Company plant following a breach of a bilateral trade agreement between the United States and Japan. Japanese officials report that inspectors at a port of Osaka found nine boxes shipped from the company's Grand Island, Nebraska plant that contained bovine thymus glands lacking proper documentation to verify that the products are derived from cattle 20 months of age or younger. USDA is investigating but, says the error was a technical violation and it is not a health-related matter. The product is legal to trade in the U.S. and many other countries.
