Kansas delegation divided on party lines in farm bill vote
Published Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 05:10 AM
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Kansas lawmakers split along party lines in the U.S. House vote on the latest farm bill.
The state's Democrats voted in favor of the 290 billion dollar measure, while Republicans voted against it.
Republican Congressman Jerry Moran represents most of the farmers in the state. He says the bill cuts direct payments and crop insurance funding.
Democrat Nancy Boyda says the bill is not perfect but was backed by most farm groups.
The White House has threatened to veto the measure, claiming it gives too much money to rich farmers.
But the House passed the bill with more than enough votes to override the veto.
The Senate is expected to vote on the bill today.
