LINCOLN, NE‹The Nebraska 4-H Foundation announced it has received a contribution from one of rural Nebraska¹s leading natural gas suppliers. ONEOK (pronounced ONE-oak) Energy Marketing has contributed $11,768 to help support 4-H citizenship and leadership development programs in the 60 Nebraska counties it serves. ONEOK Energy Marketing participates in the Choice Gas program in Nebraska‹a program that allows homeowners, businesses, farmers and ranchers to choose their natural gas supplier each year. ONEOK made a contribution on behalf of each customer in its 60-county Nebraska service area who chose ONEOK during the 2008 Choice Gas selection period. ³When ONEOK was looking for a way to give back to the communities we serve, we knew we wanted to focus our investment in the young people of Nebraska and the future of our state. 4-H quickly rose to the top of our list,² said Donna Hughes of ONEOK Energy Marketing. ³By choosing ONEOK during the Choice Gas selection period, Nebraskans in our service area also chose to support 4-H youth in their counties.² The Nebraska 4-H Foundation is marking its 50th anniversary during 2008. ³Generations of generosity have helped build the Foundation over the past fifty years‹and gifts such as this from ONEOK Energy Marketing will help us continue the legacy of investment in Nebraska¹s young people,² said K. Kirk Jamison, Executive Director of the Nebraska 4-H Foundation. The mission of the Nebraska 4-H Foundation is to seek and administer financial resources to support positive youth development through 4-H. While the Foundation supports a variety of 4-H activities in the state, the lion¹s share of support goes to the State 4-H Camp at Halsey and 4-H centers in Gretna and Alma, State Fair premiums, scholarships to the National 4-H Conference and other key initiatives that fulfill the Foundation¹s core mission. The Foundation holds title to property, directs improvements, and invests in the facilities and people responsible for ensuring the quality of 4-H programs in Nebraska. With more than 135,000 young people taking part, Nebraska is a national leader in terms of the percentage of age-eligible youth in 4-H. One out of three eligible youth in Nebraska are involved in 4-H activities, camps or programs. 4-H programs are offered in all of Nebraska¹s 93 counties.
