There are a number of tours of organic operations in the state of Nebraska that are being held starting today. Tom Schwarz of Bertrand, who is himself an organic producer , is helping coordinate the sessions. He says the tours are made possible by a grant from the Environmental Trust that was secured by several RC&D's in the state. The first of the tours will be held this morning, June 17th at 10:30 at the Tom Thomas residence in Orleans. Tom will show attendees his organic garden there. Then this afternoon, the 17th, at 1 p.m. there will be a tour of the Eric and Marion Pillard organic fruit and vegetable operation near Alma. Other tours are scheduled for June 22nd at Fulton Farms near Litchfield. That will feature their organic livestock production. And finally there will be two tours on the 24th of June. One at 10:30 a.m. at the Star family operation near Hastings that features organic corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa production and finally at 1 p.m. on the 24th there will be a tour of the Mazour operation near Lawrence to see their grass fed beef efforts. More information can be obtained by contacting Tom Schwarz of Bertrand at 308-233-4711,
