OMAHA, Neb. (AP) _ Union Pacific Corp. will release its second-quarter earnings report Thursday morning.
Investors will be examining the shipping volume at the nation's largest railroad for clues about the health of the nation's economy. The railroad had predicted relatively flat shipping volume in 2008.
On average, analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial are expecting the railroad to report earning 92 cents per share during the quarter on $4.5 billion revenue.
Union Pacific completed a two-for-one stock split in May, giving shareholders one additional Union Pacific share for each common share held.
Union Pacific operates 32,400 miles of track in 23 states from the Midwest to the West and Gulf coasts. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
