The decision handed down by U.S. District Judge John Coughenour (coon-hour) is a win for America’s farmers and ranchers. That’s according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. Farm Bureau President Bob Stallman says the court recognized that the temporary program will greatly benefit farmers and ranchers as they deal with the increased costs of feeding livestock. National Farmers Union President Tom Buis (buy-us) called the decision a fair resolution to a difficult situation. And according to National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President Andy Groseta - the judge made the right decision for America’s cattle producers.
Also weighing in on the decision - Senate Ag Committee Chairman Tom Harkin stated the most important thing is that the ruling doesn’t interfere with USDA’s authority to allow emergency haying and grazing in those areas still recovering from flooding and excessive rainfall.
