Expect Bold Energy Bill Next Year
New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman realizes that energy done right will be a key to controlling climate change. So, when the next Congress convenes next year, he wants to put forth a starting point for energy legislation that would be both - bold and broadly supported. Bingaman says – we face an international climate crisis that demands a world-wide revolution in energy technology. Senator Bingaman is Chair of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. The Senator says to mitigate global climate change, the first step is to provide federal direction and funding to prove new technologies – including determining the feasibility of carbon capture and sequestration. He says once that is accomplished we can - build a workable cap and trade system.
Bingaman says it is important to keep technological prerequisites separate of a cap and trade bill. He says a separate energy bill would – reduce both the complexity and the cost of any cap and trade legislation.
