FCIC Rates Reduced for Some 2009 Corn Hybrids
Published Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 04:41 AM
USDA’s Risk Management Biotechnology Endorsement pilot program will mean lower Federal Crop Insurance Corporation insurance rates for farmers planting certain corn hybrids next year. The reduced rates apply to approved hybrids containing specific biotech traits that enhance protection against above-ground lepidopteron pests such as moths and their larvae, below-ground corn rootworm damage, and confer tolerance to certain herbicides.

National Corn Growers Association president and Iowa grower Ron Litterer says - with so many farm costs going up, and with the excellent quality we are now seeing in corn hybrids, we’re happy to see this pilot program expand. And Litterer says he is - especially happy to see the way industry has worked together to develop the technology to lower risks.

Three seed technologies will be eligible for the program next year in certain state. The corn seed hybrids are: Monsanto’s YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2, YieldGard VT Triple, and YieldGard VT Triple PRO hybrids for non-irrigated corn for grain; Pioneer and Dow AgroSciences Herculex Xtra and Herculex Xtra RR2 hybrids for non-irrigated corn; Syngenta’s Agrisure CB and RW stacked and Agrisure 3000GT hybrids for non-irrigated corn.
