Rapid expansions in grain markets have led to record levels of gross farm income. These profits have also led to rapid increases in agricultural land values across the state and region. As farm income has risen, so have production costs from various input sources, most notably, agricultural land rent. As costs continue to rise, producers and land owners/managers must equip themselves with the latest trend data and tools necessary to manage their contracts and investments. To assist producers and land owners/managers, the University of Nebraska - Lincoln extension office will be holding a series of meetings aimed at providing participants with the information they need to effectively manage. The Lexington meeting will be Wednesday, August 27, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dawson County Extension Meeting Room, Fairgrounds, 1002 Plum Creek Parkway. To register, please call 308-324-5501. Attendees will receive information on trends in land ownership and purchasing, land crop usage, land values, trends in cash rental rates and contract types, and the impact that the U.S. Farm Bill and ethanol has on land values across Nebraska. Additionally, participants will be equipped with the skills and experience needed to effectively utilize flexible cash lease provisions in their land contracts. Flexible lease provisions are not new to land management, however due to increased land values and the need for expanded risk management, they are quickly becoming a standard business practice. Attendees will leave the event with a solid understanding of sizing up land markets, flexible cash rent provisions, and the ability to present them in future land contracts. In this new era of agriculture in the twenty-first century, as a producer or a land owner, you can not financially afford to miss this workshop opportunity. Workshops also are scheduled at the following locations: August 20: Norfolk, NE at the LifeLong Learning Center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; call 402-370-4040 to register August 21: Ainsworth, NE at the Lutheran Church; 318 E 4th St, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; call 402-387-2213 to register August 21: Springview, NE at the courthouse from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.; call 402-387-2213 to register August 22: O'Neill, NE at the Holt County Annex Building; 204 N 4th St., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. call 336-2760 to register August 25: Aurora, NE at the Bremer Community Center; 1604 L St, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; call 402-694-6174 to register August 26: Weeping Water, NE at the Cass County Fairgrounds, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; call 402-267-2205 to register The cost of this workshop is $5 per participant, which covers materials and handouts.
