Soybean Management Field Days set

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The 10th annual Soybean Management Field Days Aug. 12-15 will focus on staying competitive in a global marketplace, increasing profits and meeting the world's growing food and energy needs.

"Growing America's Future" is the theme of this year's event that will offer producers unbiased and research-based information to improve their soybean profitability.

The event consists of four field stops across the state, each with demonstration plots, lunch and time for questions. Producers can obtain ideas and insight about the challenges they face in producing a quality crop at a profitable price in today's global economy.

Topics include: soybean row spacing, plant population, planting date and irrigation management; managing new and emerging disease, insect and weed problems; nutrient management issues for soybean production; and making crop yield and price decisions.

Soybean Management Field Days will allow producers to see their checkoff dollars at work by bringing leading technology and ideas to producers.

Presenters include university specialists, educators and industry consultants.

Agronomists and plant disease and insect specialists will be available to address production-related questions. Participants can bring unknown crop problems for complimentary identification.

The field days begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m. Free registration is available the day of the event. Dates, locations and directions are:

-- Aug. 12, Bruning, Ted Norder Farm. From Bruning: one mile south on Highway 81, turn east on Highway 4 for one mile, turn south on Meridan Road, go one and one-fourth miles. Field site is on the west side of the road.

-- Aug. 13, Seward, Terry Hackbart and Sons Farm. From Interstate 80: take exit 379/Seward, go one-fourth mile north, turn into Plains Power and Equipment (John Deere Dealership). Field site is on the west side of the implement dealership. From Seward: five miles south on Highway 15.

-- Aug. 14, Wayne, Jim Stout Farm. From Wayne: six miles east on Highway 35, turn south and go one-fourth mile on 583 Avenue. Field site is on the west side of the road. From Wakefield: go two miles south on Highway 16/35, go west on Highway 35 for one mile, turn south on 583 Avenue for one-fourth mile. Field site is on the west side of the road.

-- Aug. 15, Arlington, Dalvin and Betty Scheer Farm -- Little Creek Game Bird Farm. From Arlington: turn north on St. Paul Road (which turns into County Road 9), go five miles north, turn east on Highway 91 for 2 miles. Field site is on the north side of the road. From Fremont: go north on Highway 77 for five miles, turn east on Highway 91 for nine miles. Field site is on the north side of the road.
