Pace of Soybean Rust Confirmations Increases
There was an increase in the number of soybean rust confirmations this past week. The 2008 hurricane season is being credited for bringing soybean rust north for the first time into Tennessee and North Carolina. In addition, soybean rust was reported on soybeans in ten Alabama counties, 12 Mississippi counties, two Georgia counties and two Louisiana parishes. Since January of 2008, soybean rust has been reported in 154 counties in 10 states. This includes 25 counties in Alabama, 12 counties in Arkansas, 20 counties in Georgia, 22 counties in Florida, 15 parishes in Louisiana, 41 counties in Mississippi, four counties in North Carolina, eight counties in South Carolina, two counties in Tennessee, and five counties in Texas. Rust was also reported recently in four new municipalities in Mexico on soybean.
