Canadian BSE Investigation Points to Feed
With the 16th BSE case now documented in Canada, we are now learning that the 13th case, a five-year-old Holstein cow from a dairy operation in British Columbia likely contracted the disease from commercial feed. This information is from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

CFIA's investigation of the case revealed that while all feed products the animal was exposed to were intended for feeding to ruminants, some of the farm's feed suppliers used prohibited material in preparing rations for non-ruminant species and could have caused the BSE infection.

The report noted that the detection of this case does not change any of Canada's BSE risk parameters.
