Corn and Soybean Workshop scheduled
A Corn and Soybean Workshop will be held Thursday, December 3, at the Dawson County Extension Office on the Fairgrounds in Lexington, according to Bruce Treffer, Dawson County Extension Educator. The workshop is designed to improve corn and soybean profits. The title of the workshop is “Growing Corn and Soybeans to Fuel Nebraska.” The workshop will cover a variety of topics including crop system decisions; managing diseases; an update on rots, molds and potential storage problems; equipment and residue considerations; cellulose for fuel; how much residue can be removed; considerations when producing for biodiesel or ethanol; and 2010 production costs. Loren Isom, Industrial Ag Products Center coordinator, and another industry representative will make presentations along with UNL Extension specialists like Robert Klein, UNL Extension Cropping Systems Specialist; Paul Jasa, UNL Extension Engineer; and Extension Educators John Hay, Jennifer Rees and Steve Melvin. The workshop, hosted by University of Nebraska Extension and co-sponsored by the Dawson County Corn Growers, begins at 9 - 9:15 a.m. with registration, coffee and rolls. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. The meeting will adjourn at 3:00 p.m. Registration will be $10 with a meal count requested by November 30.
