U.S. Senate Debate Aug. 23 at the Nebraska State Fair
The Democratic, Republican and Green Party candidates for U.S. Senate will participate in an Aug. 23 debate at the 2008 Nebraska State Fair in Lincoln. Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation and the Rural Radio Network/KRVN Radio are sponsoring the event, which begins at 11 a.m. The debate is free and open to the public. It will be held in the fair’s Open Air Auditorium. Three of the four candidates vying for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Chuck Hagel – Republican Mike Johanns, Democrat Scott Kleeb and Green Party candidate Steve Larrick -- have agreed to participate. Nebraska Party candidate Kelly Rosberg has indicated she will not participate. Ken Rahjes, network ag broadcaster with KRVN Radio in Lexington, will serve as moderator.
Each candidate will respond to questions from a panel of reporters and have an opportunity for closing remarks. The debate will last one hour and will be broadcast live on the Rural Radio Network: KRVN, Lexington, 880; KNEB, Scottsbluff, 960; and KTIC, West Point 840.
Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation President Keith Olsen said June 23, “The U.S. Senate Debate will be an excellent opportunity for Nebraskans to hear the different views these candidates bring to the November election. With all the issues facing Nebraska at this time, it’s important for the public to have the opportunity to evaluate the candidates. Nebraska Farm Bureau is looking forward to hosting the debate.”
